Haunstetten Master Plan
Augsburg, Germany | with Albert Wimmer ZT
The starting point for the development is the search for the ideal city. At the internationally awarded two-stage urban development competition "Haunstetten Südwest" in Augsburg. The design was evaluated as a robust basis for the development of an "ideal city" by the jury as the winning project.
An urban district of the future is being built on an area of approximately 200 hectares, which will provide housing for at least 10,000 residents and a job for at least 5,000 employees.
The winning design is characterized by a striking green center, which will be the glue for a secure social coexistence. The public space is precisely defined and creates identity and is flanked by attractive buildings for (experiencing) community. The design takes up the existing urban structures in a natural way and fits into the overarching settlement and landscape area.
The character of the new city quarter is largely determined by the “green band” that stretches from north to south and links the area with the existing city forest. The lake as an element that creates identity forms the central center of the green ribbon.
In its conception, the design builds on the different usage needs of the future residents (dialogue process) and is characterized above all by a differentiated building structure and a variety of building forms. The robust traits of urban development are given, which at the same time allow space for new accents and create a “culture of possibility”.
